October Glossybox

A week and a half ago I came home from college to find that my October Glossybox had arrived. Cue happy dance, just like every month I was ridiculously excited. This months My feelings to what was in it however can be summed up in five words…

Not impressed Glossybox. Not Impressed.

I mean seriously two of the products in the box really aren’t aimed at anybody my age at all and I know that they know how old I am. In the description of the two items that I’m talking about it says ‘immediately smoothes wrinkles’ and ‘ particularly suitable for those over 30’. I think I’m slightly insulted. Are they trying to say something? I’m 18 people, 18, I clearly am not going to have wrinkles, am I. I’ve had things similar to these a couple of times before, but never more than one in a box, so I’ve felt better about overlooking them. That and they’ve been in boxes that otherwise I’ve felt were really good. This one I’m not so sure about it’s only really got one thing in that I’ve really liked, one I could take or leave and the other I would have but never in a million years would I wear it in the colour I got for longer than it takes to try it out on one nail. So I’m not happy.

So this is what I got….

Before I go and totally slate this months box, I think that I’m going to start with the one thing that I actually liked the look of.

Although I have yet to actually try this product, for me this one was the highlight of my box. I think the first thing that attracted me to it was the bright colours of the tube and the fun text on it – a nice change from the usual serious looking products that I tend to receive. It also smells heavenly. Honestly I could sit there and smell it all day. It’s also something that I’ve heard good things about. The only problem I have with this product was that they they didn’t send out a full size tube – I mean it’s not exactly an expensive product at £3.49 for 200ml. On the plus side if it’s something that I really like then it’s something that is easily affordable for everyday use.

From there the box just seemed to go downhill.

This product to be fair isn’t that bad and I think that I’m going to try it out as I do have spot prone skin. I think that half the problem is that I hate some of the products in this box so everything has to work that much harder for me to like it.

The only way I can really say about this nail varnish is that the colour is HIDEOUS. Words do not describe how horrid this colour is. If you want your nails to bare a striking resemblance to pink hubba bubba then this is the colour for you, if not then I would suggest avoiding this colour like the plague. Having said all that, if I ignore the colour then I quite liked it.  I just wish that I had got one of the other colours that other people seem to have got.

This was the first of the products that I was and still am fuming about. It’s specially designed for skin over the age of thirty, which I would like to point out on the off chance the someone from Glossybox reads this, I AM NOT THIRTY FOR ANOTHER TWELVE YEARS. I swiftly gave this one to my Mum and from what she says I gather that it’s quite good.

This one I’m going to say two things. One, I gave it to my Nan. Two, in case the people at Glossybox haven’t understood go to the bit in shouty capitals on the last products and then seriously ask yourself if I want something that is an ‘instant anti-wrinkle moisturiser’. I don’t think that you really need an answer to that.

I’ve had most of this post written since the day after I got my box and I was thinking that I was being a little harsh when I wrote it and coming back to it today, I think that I’m pretty much feeling the same. I think that over the last couple of months the boxes have been getting slowly worse. I really hope that the next box is better. Did anyone get a good box this month?

August Glossybox

Having spent the last few weeks using the products from this months Glossybox, I’m pretty sure that this is the best one yet. I love it.

The theme of this months box was ‘international superstars’, featuring products from around the world. In mine I got from Germany Alessandro’s Pro White, from Japan DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, from Spain Vera Valenti L’ombre a Paupiere Margarita and from the UK Lipcote. I also got All For Eve For The Eve Appeal Eve’s Balm and the Glossybox Lipstick in Glossy Pink. I quite liked it when I opened my box and found that there was six items as opposed to the usual five.

For some reason it doesn’t look like it in the photo, but, there was eyeshadow everywhere.  It wasn’t all too pretty. Other than that I was quite happy when I opened my box.

On the subject of the eyeshadow, I didn’t like it. It looked cheap, it felt cheap and was just awful in general.

The other product that didn’t exactly float my boat in this box was the cleansing oil. Sure it was nice but I don’t think that it was ‘revolutionary’ as it claimed I would. It felt like it left my face very oily afterwards which has left me thinking that I’ll stick to my regular cleanser.

Lipcote was definitely my favourite product in this months box. It did exactly what it said it would do. It made a huge difference to how long my lipstick lasted – instead of needing to replace it every couple of hours, it comfortably lasted all day at work. The tingly feeling I didn’t think was too bad either, I know some people hated that feeling, but for me it  wasn’t too bad and if it meant it lasted all day – small price to pay.

I didn’t really think that the All For Eve For The Eve Appeal was actually that nourishing for my skin. I did however love the smell of it, it has this gorgeous herbal smell that  is simply amazing. It also was easily absorbed into my skin just as it said it would. And to top it all of the balm helps raise money for gynaecological cancer. So would I buy this again, yes I think I would, probably just for the smell.

The Alessandro Pro White was an amazing product. It really did brighten my nails and gave them a nice shine. One of the things that I’ll have to bare in mind for future is that I really need to make sure that there are no little splatters of black paint on my nails, this product made them unbelievably noticeable. One downside was that I noticed in certain lights it made my nails go a really weird colour, sorta a bluey tinge, it was seriously weird.

The Glossybox lipstick was in my mind a bit of a freebie and with that in my I thought it was an amazing product. I don’t think that the colour looks particularly good on me, it looks a little weird. It is however an amazing colour that I really wished looked good on me, it felt amazing too when I applied it too. I would love this in a slightly different colour, I think I would be first in line to buy it too.

Other than the eyeshadow palette that I’m desperately trying to forget I really liked this months box. Anyone else got any horror stories about this months box?

July Glossybox

I can’t believe that I’ve had my July Glossybox sitting in my room unopened for a month. I really don’t know what happened. Well I do, I like doing the post that goes with the box as I open it and this last month has been, to put it mildly a little crazy. I honestly didn’t think that it had been sitting there that long until I got home from work today to find that my August one was sitting on the worktop waiting for me.

The theme of this months box was all to do with festivals and if I’m being honest this is not the best box they’ve ever given me. Though there’s probably hundreds of girls that would really have loved this box, it just isn’t really me.

The one thing in the box that I think that I quite like is the Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Moisture Mist. I’m not sure I really understand the purpose of it but it actually felt really good when I sprayed it over my face. I’m not sure if I would really pay almost £10 for something that’s main ingredient is water, but maybe after I’ve gotten through the bottle I might have changed my mind. I also quite liked the Jelly Ping Pong Cosmetics Lip Frosting right up until the point that I saw what colour it turned out. Nice colour and all, just not on me.

Considering that my current favourite purfumes are Marc Jacobs Daisy and Miss Dior Cherie, I wasn’t holding out much hope for really liking something that is described as a ‘urban fragrance’. Unfortunately there wasn’t a surprising ‘Oh My God This Is Amazing’ moment, instead it was more of a ‘London May Be My Favourite Place In The World, But That Doesn’t Mean That I Want To Smell Like It’ moment, and, if I’m being honest I really don’t see the connection. The Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse and the Monu Night Renewal Complex just really aren’t my thing.

Overall I think that I am quite disappointed in this month’s box, I really hope that when I open August’s box tomorrow that it’ll be a different story.

June Glossybox

I have to say that I’m just not feeling this months box. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice box and the right person would probably love it, but, I don’t think it’s not for me.

As I’ve already said I’m not too keen on this months box. I’ve seen other bloggers who’ve loved theirs, but me not so much. I think half the problem I have with this box is that I loved the May box so much that anything after that was probably going to be a bit of a let down.

For me I’m not a big fan of the Glossybox ‘Serie Exculsiv Pro Beauty Brush’, mainly as it is a little scratchy and not as good as the similar brush that I already have in my make-up bag. It’ll definitely go in my bag, but it’s not going to be the one that I reach for first.

The BM Beauty ‘Summer Warmth Bronzer’ was actually quite a nice product. The main problem that I had with it was that it was  difficult to use as it came in a small pot and I found it hard to only get a little on my brush and it got very messy in the process, but I can’t imagine that I would have the same problem with the full size product.

I’m really looking forward to trying the Clean Start By Dermalogica ‘ Day / Night 3-Step mini Kit’, mainly as it comes all together with a cleanser, toner and moisturiser so I don’t have to buy them all separately and it’s by a well-known brand. I really hope that it lives up to my expectations.

With the Vichy ‘ Dermablend Ultra-Corrective Foundation Cream Stick’,  although I don’t have any particularly bad ‘flaws’ on my face, I found that this made a hell of a difference around my eyes and I found that I went from looking quite tired around my eyes to looking a lot healthier. I also found that the ‘porcelain’ shade was quite a good match for me which surprised me, as normally I find it quite difficult to find foundation that is pale enough for me, I’m a lot paler than I look. I’m not sure that at the cost of £19 I’ll be rushing out to buy it, but I think that it’d be something that I’d invest in in the future.

I’ve always been up for trying new mascaras, up until quite recently I don’t think that I have ever really stuck with a brand. Now that I’ve settled on Soap and Glory’s Thick and Fast, Yves Rocher France’s ‘Mini Mascara Ultra-Volume Sexy Pulp’ was always going to be facing quite a challenge. I think that it’s a very good mascara that goes on exceedingly well and is definitely a lot better than pretty much anything else that I’ve tried, but it doesn’t give me the same volume that my Soap and Glory mascara does and for that reason I think that I’ll be sticking with what I’ve already got, but at the same time I think that I’ll definitely be using the rest of the sample.

Now that I’ve got to the end of this post, I think that my views on this months box are changing a little. I think that I’ve gone from hating it and totally writing it off to thinking that actually this might be quite a good box, even if it is pushing me to try things that I probably wouldn’t be trying otherwise.

What did everyone else think of their boxes?

May Glossybox

Despite the fact that I’ve probably had my May Glossybox for at least the last fortnight, I’ve only just actually opened it. In between, having issues with the old asthma, resulting in a near constant cough for the last couple of weeks and running round like a headless chicken, trying to do exams on maybe four hours sleep a night if I was feeling lucky, it seemed to somehow make its way to the bottom of one of the piles in my room. I feel like  I’ve abandoned it or something. Anyhoo, here we go.

When I realised that this month was Glossybox’s first birthday, I got especially excited to see what was in it. It definitely didn’t disappoint. Even the paper that come inside this months box is gorgeous – definitely the prettiest I have seen in a while.

One of the things that I really liked about this months box is that instead of the normal five items there’s six and a compact mirror and balloon to help celebrate their birthday. The mirror has been a bit of a life saver for me as I lost mine a few weeks back and I’ve found it difficult not having one hidden somewhere in my bag.

Although overall, I really like this box, there are a couple of things that I don’t think I will particularly be using enjoying. The first one is the fake eyelashes, I don’t tend to wear them as I find them really difficult to put on, I’ll be giving them ago. I really love the perfume inside the spotty cover, but the one in the greens just not me, but they have come in really cute  mini sprays though that I really like.

I’m not too sure about the hair treatment oil as this is something that I have never used before, but I’m going to try to be open-minded about it and see how it goes before I decide properly if it like it or not.

I am really looking forward to trying the bath and shower gel out once I’ve finished the bottle of shower gel that I got in last months box. It smells amazing, I keep going back to it to open it so that I can smell it again, I love it so much. Can’t wait to try the face masks either, as its been quite a while since I’ve used one.

My favourite part of this months box though, has definitely got to be the balloon. Give me a balloon, it doesn’t matter where I am, I automatically turn back into an over excited five-year old again. Pop my balloon – you die.

Happy Birthday Glossybox.

April Glossybox

When I woke up this morning it made my day to find that the postman had come with this months natural themed Glossybox. I was excited to find out what would be in this months box as I loved last months Harrod’s box. And it did not disappoint. In some ways I think that I actually like this one more as it contains more items that I would use on a regular basis – especially the body wash, which I think smells amazing.

Wonder what next months will have in.

Glossybox

I was so happy when I came back from getting some of my birthday present with my Gran to find that my Glossybox had finally come. Admittedly it’s been less than a week since I brought it, but I’m an inpatient person. The box it comes in the post in is so pretty, I really wish I could show you a picture, but someone threw it out before I could find my camera.

The inside of the box is amazing. There’s something about the bow that really just completes its.

I have to say I’m impressed. I can’t wait to try the Versace perfume, just had a bit of  a smell and I think it smells amazing.
